In 2019 we received a Faunal Emblems grant from DELWP to erect nest boxes for Leadbeater's Possum across Mt Toolebewong on members' properties. Suitable habitat was surveyed in 2020 with researchers from Zoos Victoria, and wildlife monitoring cameras and bait stations (Zoos Victoria permit) were installed at appropriate locations from the end of March until early June. Several Leadbeater's Possums were detected and we will install nest boxes soon across the mountain and monitor every 6 months for at least 3 years. Locations of sightings and nest boxes will be kept private. Other animals detected were Mountain Brushtail Possum, Ringtail Possum, Sugar Glider, Feathertail Glider, Bush Rat and Agile Antechinus. From 2022 we are looking for more properties on Mt Toolebewong and Ben Cairn to search for suitable Leadbeater's Possum habitat, and welcome contact from property owners. We thank Parks Victoria, DELWP and Zoos Victoria for their advice and assistance.
